Many horses coming out of shoes will need time for their hooves to transition and heal from the harmful effects of shoeing. Their feet are often more sensitive and tender, initially. Hoof boots are a great help for these horses. In fact, I insist on horses coming out of shoes be fitted with hoof boots for riding. These boots provide superior protection compared to a horse shoe, while allowing the hoof to expand and contact, without impeding proper hoof mechanism. The boots promote a comfortable, correct landing. With increased, comfortable movement, hooves strengthen more quickly. Horses usually need them while being ridden for the first 3 - 6 months while the hooves transition. When not being ridden, the horse remains barefoot. After that, most horse will not need boots for arena work, needing them only when riding on rocky terrain that their hooves may not be conditoned to.
I am an authorized EasyCare dealer and I am experienced in fitting hoof boots.
